Reversal Of Fortune
I cannot remember a game where the Phantoms have got off to such a good start as they did against the old rival, the Aardvarx, or any other team for that matter!
The 'Varx visited Deeside last Sunday with four full lines, looking to make up for the 7 - 2 defeat handed to them by the Phantoms at Blackburn last month. But at the start of the game it looked like the visitors were going to be sadly dissapointed. The Phantoms came out full of fire with all guns blazing, taking a 4 goal lead inside of 5 minutes. Ryan Clark netted two with Sam Hunt and Brian Chalmers getting the others; Marian Germuska also got on the score sheet with two assists while Richard Allen and Barry Meikle got one apiece. The 'Varx scored shortly after and it remained 4 - 1 in favour of the Phantoms to the end of the period.
Unfortunately, the second and third periods did not have such a happy outcome for the Deesiders. Whether it was down to complacency brought on by the early lead or the larger squad and shortened lines used by the visitors is a matter for debate but the result was 10 more goals being scored by the 'Varx while the Phantoms managed only 2; another point each for Sam Hunt and Ryan Clark, giving Ryan a hat trick on the night, with assists from Phil Hand and Mal Singleton.
Coming off the back of such a close game and great performance against the Chargers, and bearing in mind the flying start, the final result of this game is hard to take. The only thing to do is put it down to experience, forget about it and look forward to doing better next time.
